Moss 2007: Enhancing search results by changing the XSLT on the Search Core Results Web Part

A client recently asked if search results could be extended to display certain metadata values in results using Search Core Results Web Part.

The procedure for doing this is actually quite simple.

All you need to do is

1.Add the field(s) you want to display to the list of Managed Properties for the crawler (SharePoint Central Admin).

2.Add the managed property (or properties) to the list of columns returned by the Search Core Results Web Part (Results Query Options – Selected Columns).

3.Update the XSLT stylesheet used to render the results. The difficult though is trying to identify to correct metadata value required.
