How to hide the ‘sign-in’ row from an internet facing SharePoint 2007 publishing site

For enhanced security it is always to take as many precautions as possible and protect your systems from attack.  As such, when deploying a publishing site here was a need to hide the Sign-In row from the top of the page.

The solution chosen was to use the <asp:LoginView> control. This control is placed around the entire row that contains the global navigation.

<TABLE class="ms-main" CELLPADDING="0" CELLSPACING="0" BORDER="0" width="990px" HEIGHT="100%">
   <asp:LoginView runat="server">
  <LoggedInTemplate>
<tr><td><asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderGlobalNavigation" runat="server">

     </tr>
    </table>
   </asp:ContentPlaceHolder></td></tr>
     </LoggedInTemplate>
</asp:LoginView>
