How to display the contents of a folder within a Document Library

I’ve been looking into ways you could display the content of a folder within a document library. Some blogs suggest using the page viewer web part to display specific views, however this will include duplication of the CEntranet branding. The best solution I can come up with is based on thoughts of this blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/eferron/archive/2005/07/07/436584.aspx

Basically remove the folders completely and maintain a flat structure of files. Then add a new metadata column to your library, call it something like ‘category’. Allocate each document a category, named as one of your original folders. Then you can easily tweak individual ‘views’ to display all documents of a given category.
